Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum Movie Review

onaayum-aattukkuttiyum-movie-review
Starring : Sree, Mysskin, Adithya, Neelima
Direction : Mysskin
Music : Ilaiyaraaja
Production : Lone Wolf Productions
May be Indian cinema couldn’t compete with Hollywood in terms of budget but a sensible film making like Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum will certainly raise our bars to world class films. In Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum Mysskin played strength to strength and used all his positive points in order to make an edge of the seat emotional thriller.
Chandru (Sree) , a medical student happen to see Wolf (Mysskin – this is how police crime buddies call him) who was struggling for his life as he got a gun shot . As Chandru helped Wolf police arrests him and they are trying to use him as a trump card to catch Wolf. The rest of the story tells us about Wolf’s emotional side with the edge of the seat narration.
Before discussing about the director Mysskin, it’s time to say few words about the actor Mysskin. The wolf character is something which is tailor made for the actor, the way Mysskin utters dialogue, the way he fights , the way he emotes – truly an award winning performance. The scene where Mysskin cries and narrates the wolf story to the child will definitely move everyone and only an experienced actor can do such a scene with convincing performance. Sree is no way inferior to Mysskin and he has breathes the role of Chandru – a frighten lamb who then changes in to a fearless man.
Along with Sree and Mysskin Ilaiyaraaja’s background score acts as the lead hero of the film. The Maestro has raised the bar of Indian music to another level in Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum . Ilaiyaraaja’s world class BGM literally lifts every frame of Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum to different level, in fact till date only International films have such music and a big kudos to the Maestro for composing such an excellent background score.
For a thriller like Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum , characterization and acting is very important. Every character should be penned with abstract notations at the same time the audience should not be confused, Mysskin the master of such thrillers has given his best in Onaaiyum Aatukuttiyum . Every character in the film leaves an impression in our mind , for example even the small beggar character who helps Mysskin just comes in a fraction of second in the frame but it made a strong impression which shows the detailed characterization of Mysskin.
Many characters including Edwards’s mother , father , the villain, the corrupt police officer, the honest and intelligent CBI are played by new comer . Though we couldn’t remember the names of the new comers, we could remember their character and it marks the victory for the debut actors and the casting team.
Balaji V Rangha’s camera beautifully portrays the Chennai city at nights and it is not easy to make a film at nights without a good camera man. The editing is crisp and the racy cuts give the necessary mood to the film.
Overall Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum is a must watch for all who wants to see a edge of the seat thriller with world class BGM.

Verdict : Just go, watch and enjoy this gripping thriller.

Raja Rani Movie Review

raja-rani-movie-review
Starring : Arya , Jai , Nayanthara , Nazriya Nazim , Santhanam , Sathyaraj
Direction : Atlee Kumar
Music : GV Prakash
Producer : AR Mrugadoss and Fox Studios
Raja Rani is a beautiful romantic love flick. The movie revolves around the love stories of the couples, who decided to marry against their wishes. In Milana, the love between the couple grows with time but in the latest flick, it bursts out all of a sudden as the movie starts nearing its climax.
There are two love tracks in the movie. In fact it is three with John (Arya) and Regina (Nayantara) falling in love by the end of the movie. Raja Rani begins with the marriage of the lead stars. They wed against their will. Their chemistry doesn’t work in the beginning and the couple hate each other.
But the story takes a twist when Regina suffers a stroke and she reveals her past love story. In the second half, we are told about Arya’s love story. However, how the love blossoms between John and Regina? What are their past stories? What impact will Jai and Nazriya Nazim’s roles have on the story? Watch the movie to get answers for all these questions.
Coming to performances, and it is the girls who steal the show. Nayanthara does cast a spell with her emotional acts, while Nazriya is super bubbly and cute. Arya does look a bit statue at places, but he does keep in line with what was expected from him. Jai on the other hand, does shadow off a little bit into the overacting circle. Nevertheless, his performance is one which is most enjoyed by the audience. Santhanam does manage to crack you up from time to time but Sathyaraj is a surprise package. Kudos to Atlee for sketching out some really distinct characters and stitching them in beautifully.
Every shot in Raja Rani is a beauty. George C Williams has done a classy job with the camera, his color tones for the song sequences and the camera angles for the movie overall are a eye-catching spectacle. Editing and other aspects are well done too.
Music is another asset of Raja Rani,GV.Prakash’s songs do fit in well as they are aided by pretty good picturisations. His BGM, especially in the Jai-Nayan episode is a treat to the ears.
On the downside, Raja Rani does drag around a bit here and there. You might feel the inclusion of unwanted scenes from time to time, but that doesn’t bring the movie to a halt.
Atlee Kumar manages to come out with a decent show on his first shot. He succeeds in the emotional scenes more than anything else, while receiving good support from his artists.

Verdict : Raja Rani is a family Entertainer, Raja Rani will leave you with a good feeling, while showcasing the realistic truth about love.

Apple Penney Movie Trailer

Ya Ya Movie Review

ya-ya-movie-review
Starring : Shiva, Santhanam, Sandhya and Dhansika
Direction : I. Rajasekaran
Music : Vijay Ebenezer
Production : MS Murugaraj
Actor Shiva can never get tired of doing comedy entertainers. Within two months of his last film’s release, his new film ‘Ya Ya’ has hit the screens today. Santhanam plays the second lead in the film and his name in the title card along with Shiva’s name proves that a lot of filmmakers rely on Santhanam to make their film click with the audience. The movie is directed by newcomer Rajasekaran, who was a former assistant of Director Rajesh. Dhansika and Sandhya play the leading ladies.
Dhoni aka Ramarajan (Shiva) does not have any aim in his life and he is contended with getting money from friends and relatives. Sehwag aka Rajkiran (Santhanam) is introduced to Dhoni under strange circumstances. Although they are at loggerheads with each other initially, they soon turn out to be good friends. Meanwhile, Dhoni falls in love with Seetha (Dhansika), but she does not reciprocate his feelings for her. Kanaka (Sandhya) is a police constable and she plays Dhoni’s cousin. With all these characters in the film, the movie tries to be a clean comedy entertainer.
The role is tailor-made for Shiva, however, you cannot help comparing his role with almost all of his previous films’ roles. It is good to star in comedy films and entertain people, but one has to make sure it does not get too repetitive for the audience. Santhanam sparkles in places and interestingly, he has also got a pair in the film. We do not want to reveal more on that, as it is the only surprise factor in the film.
Dhansika looks pretty, but her role has very limited scope. After doing a film like ‘Paradesi’, Dhansika should have got powerful roles in Kollywood. Sandhya appears in few sequences and she does not make a very powerful impact. Powerstar Srinivasan is back with imitating the Kollywood stars and he has not spared anyone at all this time – Rajini, Kamal, Vijay, Ajith, Suriya… Devadarshini as a councillor and her sidekicks are annoying in their roles.
Among Vijay Ebenezer’s songs, ‘Oru Kannaadiya’ is an interesting number and his background score is passable, considering the nature of the script. Vetri’s camera work is functional and thanks to editor Suresh, the movie’s running length is just 2 hours and 16 minutes.
There is no single scene in the film that stands out and appeals to the audience. The movie takes time to get started, as the first half an hour is lost in introducing the characters. The councillor’s character is very poorly sketched. How many more films will showcase old women falling for young men? The director has made sure there is a punchline from Santhanam every now and then. But, more often than not, the jokes are silly and do not evoke laughter.
It is not sure why makers are behind keeping the names of famous personalities’ for their characters in the film. (Remember, the names ‘Rajini and ‘Kamal’ were used in Saguni?) This film tries to bank on the popularity of Dhoni and Sehwag.

Eyes On Hot Kannada Beauty

Tollywood is the choicest destination for many aspiring beauties and generally it is the girls from Mumbai who come here and make a career and life for themselves.
The second breed of girls comes from Tamil Nadu or Kerala. But it is a very rare trend to see girls coming in from Karnataka and making their presence felt in Tollywood.
Lately, the likes of Pranitha, Kriti Kharbanda, Haripriya, Lakshmi Rai and others have been making some noise. But one hot Kannada beauty has grabbed the eyeballs of many latest. Her name is Parul Yadav. The local Hyderabad magazine Wow has listed out the top 10 heroines who are going to rock in future ie promising heroines and the name of Parul is in that.
She has been busy with projects in Tamil, Kannada and now in Telugu also she is getting offers. Parul was recently spotted at the audio release function of ‘Potugadu’ and tongues got wagging about her details and call sheets. Well, it may not be long before Parul sets foot on Tollywood screens then.

Now, there seems to be yet another story of a cine stars on the same lines. Well, Nazriya Nazim, who struck gold with her first Tamil movie Neram, and budding actor Jai are the latest jodis, who are reportedly in love. Nazriya Nazim had earlier said that her co-star Jai of Thirumanam Ennum Nikkah (TEN) was helping her a lot in getting her lines in the movie. He had thought the actress to mouth her humorous lines in the movie. Now, it appears like their bonding has gone to the next level as they are seeing each other.

Rumour mills say that Jai visits the sets of her forthcoming movie Naiyaandi and they spend a lot of time together at Nazriya Nazim's caravan. This seems to have not gone well with the crew. But the alleged couple has not bothered much about the comments that are doing the rounds in the cine circle. It has to be noted that Jai was earlier linked up with Vijayalakshmi and Anjali during the making of Engeyum Eppodhum
.

Angry Thalaivaa Vijay To Boycott Centenary Celebrations!

Illayathalapathy Vijay is not seen much in public after Thalaivaa mess up. The actor was reportedly disappointed after the incidents halted the release of his last movie in Tamil Nadu. Irked by the developments, he is set to boycott the Indian Cinema's Centenary Celebrations, which will be held in Chennai between September 21 and 24. According to sources, Illayathalapathy Vijay is yet to come out from the dark episode. The actor, who had faced similar kind of troubles during his earlier release Kaavalan in 2010, is unhappy and not in a mood to attend the function. Reports say that he is angry because his own people snubbed him during the Thalaivaa release and no men in the industry stood by him when needed. Thalaivaa was banned in Tamil Nadu for some unknown reasons. Though it was not an official ban like Kamal Hassan's Vishwaroopam, theatres in the state backed out from screening after getting a bomb threat letters from a mysterious group. Ragini Dwivedi suffers wardrobe Malfunction at Siima Awards

Ragini-DwivediRagini Dwivedi was rather involved in an unfortunate wardrobe malfunction at the SIIMA Awards. The actress who was performing a medley number wore a lace outfit with a flimsy bustier covering her. The bustier lining gave way with just the lace outfit on.
Ragini was so involved in the performance she failed to notice the dress slipping up but actress Lakshmi Manchu of Kadal Fame ran up to the stage and rescued her and the lights on the stage were dimmed.
“It was not as if I welcomed it. It was incidental and something I need to forget and move on from. The moment I realised that something had gone wrong, I slipped off into the wings. Thankfully, the background lights were black and blue and I had my hair in the front,” said Ragini.

Moodar Koodam Movie Review

Moodar-Koodam-Movie-Review
Cast : Sentrayan , Oviya
Direction : Naveen
Music : Nataraj Shankaran
Producer : Naveen
Release : Pasanga Productions
A series of unfortunate events that sees four men – ‘Juvenile Case’ Naveen, ‘Dope Peddler’ Sendraayan, ‘Runaway Orphan’ Vellachami alias White and ‘local bum’ Kuberan – find themselves inside a police station. We have a Usual Suspects-ish situation on our hands. A decent cop lets them off with 500 bucks. Over several rounds of alcohol, the four broken men share the sorrows of their life and find a degree of solace in each other’s company. With nothing more left to lose, they decide to burgle the house of White’s uncle Bakthavathsalam. With a seemingly foolproof plan set in place, the men reach their destination. But the film’s title has us believe that they are a bunch of filtered fools. So nothing can go right, right? Right. What was supposed to be an in-out robbery inadvertently turns into a hostage situation and series of revelations follow.
Moodar Koodam, directed by Naveen, is a heist gone wrong film. It starts off decently, but the narrative quickly goes to the dogs. The film shows us a backstory for most of the principal characters, where we see what brought them to this point in life. Besides heavily borrowing narrative elements from Tarantino, Naveen fails to understand why those chapters worked in the first place in films like Reservoir Dogs and Kill Bill. Instead of taking the story forward, the flashbacks, here, bring the narrative to a grinding halt. Every time a title card indicating a flashback for one of the characters got displayed, some at the most inopportune moments, the audience at my screening understandably let out an exasperated groan. The style became very painful after a point.
Most of the film takes place inside one room in the bungalow. With every couple of passing scenes, the number of people in the room which houses the members of the family keeps getting increased. The film introduces way too many characters who kill you with their painful quirkiness. There’s a North Madras gang, a Dawood Ibrahim gang, a Seth moneylender along half a dozen more unmemorable characters. The one supporting character which works to the film’s benefit is that of a little girl who picks up the phone when Bakthavathsalam calls his personal muscle. The film could have used more of her. I loved that kid.
The tone of violence in most Tamil films is often over the top and unrealistic. Fortunately or unfortunately, this gives those filmmakers the liberty to fill their films with lots of it, while not affecting their character’s character. But once a director is capable enough of staging realistic violence, he/she automatically becomes responsible for the actions of her characters. The violence in Moodar Koodam is affectingly real for most parts, but director Naveen uses it judiciously. Naveen and his fellow goons are unflinchingly brutal and do not discriminate between their victims, who range from helpless children to women to middle aged men. I don’t mind the violence per se. My problem is with how the film paints this despicable assortment as “heroes”. How could they expect us to root for a person who slaps a child hard across the face?
The film is completely befuddled about how it wants the viewers to see its protagonists. I don’t want to compare Soodhu Kavvum to this embarrassment, but for the want of a better analogy, I am left with no other option. I love the members of the ‘kepnapping’ gang from Soodhu Kavvum because, despite their illegal methods, they are still immensely likable. But here, these thieves glorify/fashion themselves as wronged people who are taking back what is theirs. There’s a lot of a dialogue-baazi about ‘survival of the fittest’ reeking with misplaced sense of morals. There’s some anti-establishment angst about rich keep getting richer, while the poor stay poor. Merely dropping a line about how Bakthavathsalam duped many people of their money is not enough justification to make us deem the violence necessary here. Just a single token act of charity to save a housemaid’s critically ill daughter at the end is not enough to bring about a change of heart in us.
Although the running joke about the little girl developing feelings for her captor after getting slapped is abhorrent to say the least, the kid performs well. Actually, both the kids in the family are very good. With no resolution in sight, the film drags on and on until it reaches a climax where all the players find themselves at the house. But this is not a film which is too interested in putting its lead characters in sticky situations. So there are hardly any consequences. Eventually, even blood gets spilled but the film continues to maintain its irresponsible attitude towards violence. The musical interludes are a dud as well. From using classical western music to mexican standoffs, everything about Moodar Koodam is derivative. It is such a wannabe movie that it hurts.

Kochadaiiyaan - The Legend | Official Teaser (Exclusive)

Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam Movie Review

varuthapadatha-valibar-sangam-movie-review
Cast : Sivakarthikeyan , Sridivya , Sathyaraj , Soori
Direction : Ponram
Music : D Imman
Producer : Escape Artists Madhan
Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam (VVS) is yet another Sivakarthikeyan flick that aimlessly treads a path almost all his films to date have been on. Without an iota of doubt, any regular Tamil cinema patron would agree with the fact that Siva’s forte is comedy. But, I feel it’s time he shifts gears and moves on to different genre of films. He may have scored four hits in a row, but clinging on to one’s strength for too long is not always good.
Needless to say, VVS is an archetypal Sivakarthikeyan outing that rides high on comedy and low on logic, but it fails to leave a lasting impression. But, I don’t see a point in blaming the film because it lives up to its purpose of entertaining audiences. Akin to the title, it doesn’t disappoint even for a single minute. Even when some of lines sound clichéd, you tend to smile with the rest of the audience. Siva’s films have so much in common nowadays. For instance, he is jobless; always accompanied by a close friend who is more or less of a sidekick and he gulps down his sorrow in the form of liquor. It’s becoming unimaginably clichéd yet we seem to be making his film reap gold at the box-office. In essence, is this what we as audiences want from our filmmakers.
I don’t know if VVS genuinely addressed a burning issue with a pinch of sarcasm, but it subtly touches upon the rise in teen marriages in villages. In fact, the story revolves around Bose Pandi and Latha Pandi, two characters that are brought together by love after the former saves the latter from getting married as a minor. But, before we know it, Latha falls head over heels for Bose, and one wonders if she is still a minor. We only understand from scenes in which Latha dons school uniform that she is under 18, but what about the time when she walks around in a sari. This whole sub-plot just doesn’t make sense or appears to be written for the convenience of the lead pair to come together defying logic.
Siva and Soori have become one of the highly entertaining pairs in Tamil cinema. Scenes featuring them are a laugh riot. Siva is far better than several other Tamil actors enjoying stardom in the industry. He is a very polished actor who doesn’t like to enjoy the buildup of a typical Tamil cinema hero. This has precisely worked in his favour and proof to it is the back-to-back hits in his career.
Length is a big problem in what is otherwise an out-and-out comedy entertainer. It’s easy to say turn off your brain and enjoy this masala entertainer, but when you have paid the money and decided to watch it, you may as well do so.

Verdict : High on comedy and low on logic
