Haridas Movie Review

haridas-movie-review
Starring : Kishore, Sneha, Soori, Prithviraj Das
Direction : GNR Kumaravelan
Music : Vijay Antony
Production : DR V RAM Production Private Limited
Tamil cinema rarely produce films which plays with our emotions and GNR Kumaravelan’s Haridas is one such film which brilliantly depicts the autistic child and his relatioship with his father.
Haridas revolves around three characters Sivadas (Kishore) , Hari (Pritviraj Das) and Amudhavali(Sneha), but the screenplay was brilliant which didn’t lost its grip till the end. Kishore ,the talented actor essayed his role to the sheer perfection. Kishore at his best as a tough cop and a lovable father of the special child. Haridas is probably the best role offered to Sneha in recent times and she lived as Amudhavali. But the real heart stealer is the small boy Pritviraj who essayed the role of the special child Hari and he was brilliant in portraying the role of a autistic boy.
The best thing about Haridas is that the film is not preachy and GNR Kumaraveln’s screenplay is very tight. The film also portrayed the enounter portions really well. The film just moves as a clear stream of water with feel good factor prevails in each and every scene, especially the climax was fabulous. The film must be lauded for Rathnavelu’s brilliant cinematography with different lighting which suits the mood of the film.
Yugi Sethu plays the role of a doctor and his role was really interesting . Though Soori’s role is for a comic relief at some time it looks cliched and boring. All other small characters like Pradap Rawat are adequate.
Vijay Antony who was known for his loud background score has ashown a brilliant transformation and his BGM is soul strirring. GNR Kumaravelan’s Ninaithaley Inikum and Yuvan Yuvathi might not be a great film, but his Haridas is one of the brillant movies in Tamil cinema.
Verdict : Enjoy the feel good ride
3.5

Aadalam Boys Chinnadha Dance Movie Review

Aadalam-Boys-Chinnatha-Dance-movie-review
Directtion : Remo D’Souza
Production : Siddharth Roy Kapur , Ronnie Screwvala
Written : Tushar Hiranandani
Starring : Prabhu Deva , Ganesh Acharya , Kay Kay Menon , Lauren Gottlieb , Dharmesh Yelande , Salman Yusuff Khan
Music by : Sachin Jigar
There has been an unusual buzz around Hindi ABCD’s dubbed Tamil version Aadalam Boys Chinnatha Dance, ever since UTV started marketing it as India’s first ever 3D dance film in which Prabhu Deva was playing the lead.
And it must be said that the director and choreographer Remo D’souza has delivered the goods despite the fact that the film takes inspiration from many Hollywood dance movies (Step Up) and is predictable.
The film has a very thin plot, and one can say that it is a simple variation of yet another under dog’s story. A super talented but naïve dance trainer Vishnu (Prabhu Deva) is kicked out of his own dance company that he helped create for his friend, Jahangir (Kay Kay Menon), only to form another dance crew and win a popular competition on television.
How Vishnu, against all odds creates a new dance company along with his buddy Gopi (Ganesh Acharya) with the help of ordinary street dancers and triumphs in the end forms the rest of the story.
The script incorporates a number of regular elements like loyalty, betrayal, love, jealousy and compassion, and all clichés that we have seen in a number of ‘street dance’ movies. But, let us be fair. The makers never claimed they had made an original film. What was expected of them was to showcase well-choreographed dance set pieces, and they have delivered on their promise.
Remo D’souza has made sure the film has ample dance set pieces, and boy, he has shown the world that he can choreograph. The world he has created within the film is largely believable except for some annoyingly stereotyped characters like that of a Muslim butcher who is annoyed with his own son because he is passionate about dancing!
The director must thank the multi-talented Prabhu Deva, who saves the film despite being populated by actors who are inconsistent throughout. This must have something to do with the fact that all of the characters in this film, except that of Kay Kay Menon’s, are played by professional dancers.
ABCD is filled with scenes where fantastic dancers showcase different styles. We get to see hip-hop, street, ballet-inspired Bollywood and our very own Indian festival dance. That famous choreographer Ganesh Acharya who plays the role of Gopi, a local choreographer and a friend of Vishnu, got to utter more dialogues than show off dance moves, was a little disappointing.
The background score by Sachin-Jigar borders mostly on mediocrity for a script that relies heavily on music. On the whole, ABCD has nothing that you haven’t seen before in a dance film or even in a commercial Indian film. The 3D effects are not worth it and does not fit in with the story.
Despite the fact that you might find resemblances to multiple movies of the same genre, director Remo D’souza must be congratulated on making an ‘Indian’ dance film, which keeps its promise of a film packed with scintillating dance performance

Sillunu Oru Sandhippu Movie Review

sillunu-oru-sandhippu-movie-review
Starring : Vimal, Oviya, Dipa Shah
Direction : Ravi Lallin
Music : FS Faizal
Production : Madras Enterprises
Ravi Lallin’s Sillunu oru Sandhippu is a triangular love story which has Vimal,Oviya and Dipa Shah in the lead. On seeing the title one could expect a novel love story. But what the director adopts here is a tired and tested triangular love story.
Vimal and Oviya were classmates in a high school in ooty and loves each other , later they parted away as they are minors . Vimal goes to USA and gets settled there, when he returns to India he falls in love with Dipa Shah who is the sister of Vimal’s sister-in law. When they were about to marry there comes Oviya and the rest of the story is very much predictable.
Ravi Lallin tries to convey a message to the audience but adding the unecessary masala elements and outdated screenplay the film looks so amateurish. Vimal as a school student is a complete shocker so as Oviya. Vimal has to work in his accent or else he might not do any urban stories. Oviya tries to please the audience with her glam looks and Dipa Shah’s acting is not up to the mark. There are so many charcters in the film particularly Mano bala ‘s comedy and Charu haasan’s philosophy are the height of boredom which tests our patience.
The only saving grace of Sillunu Oru Kadhal is Rajesh Yadav’s cinematography ,Music by Fazil is loud so as the BGM. Over all Ravi Lallin’s Siiluno Oru Kadhal is a tiring watch.
Verdict : Watch it on your own risk

What Cooking between Vikram and Rana

vikram-rana

Vikram is not a kind of actor who involve in controversies but recently an interview to North India made him to rub shoulders with Rana Daggubatti. When the interviewer asked him “South stars have never made it big in Bollywood, except for Kamal Haasan, as compared to the female stars. Why aren’t their male counterparts branching out of the south film industries?” Vikram replied that “Kamal Haasan had Ek Duuje Ke Liye (1981), which was the biggest hit that year. Then he had Saagar (1985). After that he hasn’t done anything. It’s not easy to leave your business down south. You get paid a lot in the south. Here you have to start from scratch. For girls it’s different as they do their PR well. Look at Rana Daggubati. He started in the Telugu industry and came to Bollywood but he hadn’t made any headway in the south. Now he’s not bothered about the Telugu industry. To work in Bollywood, I have to leave everything and come here. I am doing a film for Shankar, which is being made at R145 cr and I can’t just leave that.”
This comment in turn irked Rana Dagubatti and he tweeted “Dear Mr.Vikram I see you quote me and my directions in quite a few media interactions of yours recently. It is best if you focus on your Career that isn’t headed in the right direction with close to 10 odd disasters in your kitty I’m barely 2 1/2yrs old as an actor and You are almost close to 25yrs. Stay put on urs as I am on mine ;) not take anything away still a huge fan of few of your films .
There is a saying that actors from south should be very careful when giving a interview to North Indian ,recently Kajal got into the controversy and now vikram.

Anushka and Rana for Rani Rudrama Devi

After Arundhati, Anushka Shetty is set to work with Director Gunasekhar who is making a historical drama on Rani Rudrama Devi, a stereoscopic 3D film. Tthe latest addition to that prestigious list will be Rana Daggubati who will don the role of Chalukya Veerabhadrudu in Gunashekar’s period flick.
Gunashekar opted for the flamboyant star after he was impressed by the actor’s performance in his latest offering Krishnam Vande Jagadhgurum alongside Nayanthara. The shoots of Rani Rudrama Devi are progressing swiftly and with Rana coming on board there is no doubt there would be more strength added to the film.
The concept of the film is even more intriguing as it is based on a heroic tale of one of the prominent rulers hailing from the Kakatiya dynasty. Rani Rudrama Devi is said to be a dream project for Gunasekhar and he has planned to use the prevailing hi-technology to make in a big one.
Maestro Illayaraja is expected to compose the music for this bilingual film, which will be simultaneously made in Telugu and Tamil.

A huge set for Shakar-Vikram’s I in Hyderabad

If u categorize Shankar’s movies list you will find nothing, because he is unpredictable. He started with Gentleman in 1993 and his last flick was Nanban. In this span of 10 years, Shankar entertained us with almost every genre. Enthiran was expected to be high budget movie in Indian cinema and got applause from all categories of audiences for his technical brilliance.
Shankar is now working with versatile actor Vikram for “I”. There is a huge buzz on the budget of this movie as they say it is going to be more costly than Enthiran. Now “I” is on sets, and recently shifted to Hyderabad for their next schedule. As per close sources, in this schedule Shankar will shoot a song in Hyderabad Prasad Studio with 500 foreign artists, which is going to be a visual wonder.
Vikram pairs with Amy Jackson and A.R.Rahman has already delivered all the songs for this film. Cinematography will be done by P.C.Sriram and this film is produced by Venu Ravichandran under Aascar Films.

Vijay confirmed for Super Good Films

Following the speculations by the media over the past few days, famed producer R.B. Choudhary of Super Good Films made a grand announcement at the audio launch function of Onbathula Guru where Vijay was present as the chief guest. R.B. Choudhary said that a lot of people pointed out to him that it has been years since he made a film with Vijay and that had triggered a thought for him to sign Vijay for his next project.
He said that as soon as Vijay finishes work for Thalaivaa, he will commence a project under the banner of Super Good Films that gave him many hit films in the past. It is likely that this will be the same project that was proposed by director Nesan with the title Jilla.

Samantha defends her relationship with Siddarth

Siddharth-and-Samantha
The tabloids had a field day when they spotted that Siddarth and Samantha’s proximity grew increasingly closer at an audio release function in Hyderabad. There were plenty of reports which suggested that both of them couldn’t take their eyes of each other the whole time and suspected that something might be brewing between them.
Samantha though was quick to defend her relationship with Siddarth as being nothing more than professional. She finds it as a bit of a monotonous routine that the media cooks up matters such as this for nearly every project that she’s involved with. She and Siddarth are working together on a Telugu film titled Jabardasth and it will be dubbed in Tamil as Dum Dum Pee Pee.

Hansika the busy bee

hanshika
Hansika has been shooting for seven films simultaneously these days. Apparently, apart from her current projects, the actress has kept four other filmmakers waiting for her confirmation to sign on the dotted line. She’s said to be shooting every single day for the past few months. A source close to the actress says, “She will be shooting on all days till April. She’s planning a vacation only after that. Since childhood, Hansika has been a hard worker and it’s only because of her sheer inner strength that she’s able to manage her heavily-packed schedule. Right now, her only motive is to complete all the films without any confusion. For the four projects that have come her way, she has to re-work her schedule and plan accordingly.”
The source further adds, “She is essaying the role of a journalist in Biriyani. She will be shooting for it later this month.” The actress is currently shooting in Hyderabad for Sundar C’s flick with Siddharth.

Will Vikram’s luck change with Shankar’s I?

Vikram
He’s seen it all- Success and failure. Unarguably he is one of the finest actors of his generation and a complete rock-n-rolla persona.
But for too long now, he’d been lagging in the race to churn out hits. Trade feels that the actor has lost the all-important opening and only a super hit can bring him back in the reckoning.
After Anniyan, a super hit in 2005, Vikram had a spate of misses like Majaa, Bheema, Kanthaswamy, Raavanan, Rajapattai and Thaandavam. The only film which was break-even was Deivathirumagal. And last week Bejoy Nambiar’s David in which he shared screen space with Jiiva too fizzled out without much ado.
But Vikram’s next big release is Shankar’s I and a lot is riding on it. Industry feels that I will be surely be his comeback vehicle and the actor is heavily banking on this big budget extravaganza.
Remember that ace director Shankar had given Anniyan, one of Vikram’s biggest commercial successes. If anybody can salvage Vikram’s box-office status it is Shankar.

Shankar warns Amy Jackson again!

Shankar
British bombshell Amy Jackson who is known to be quite a party animal was apparently requested by director Shankar to sober things down till the shooting of ‘I’ was complete. It may be recalled that Shankar had earlier said No to Amy’s partying ways. Shankar has again said a strict no-no to Amy’s all-nighters in order to get the best out of the actress the next morning.
It is believed that Amy celebrated her birthday with team of ‘I’, and that too was a teetotalling affair and she was resigned to just her birthday cake. Amy, along with Shankar and Vikram have travelled to the far east for a few schedules and later to Jodhpur and Australia before returning to Chennai.
Now Amy seems to have found some breathing space between her hectic schedule and is supposedly planning a trip to Pondy with her friends to catch up on what she’s been missing out on !

David Movie Review

david-movie-review
Starring : Vikram, Jiiva, Tabu, Nassar, Lara Dutta, Isha Sharvani
Direction : Bejoy Nambiar
Music : Prasanth Pillai,Anirudh Ravixhander,Remo Fernandes
Production : Getaway films,Reliance entertainment
In the classic fable, these two unlike animals race each other to the finishing line. Now, the hare is ambitious and swift but also overconfident. The tortoise is slow but just as determined to win.
Bejoy Nambiar’s gorgeously packaged, well-acted but underwhelming David is like a split personality, racing on three different tracks exhibiting the skills and shortcomings of both these fellas.
On one hand, it is incredibly grand in its ideas and challenges the traditional structure of storytelling. On the other its uneven, often dragging pace and frantically shifting moods, unable to hold fort.
In terms of filmmaking, David is an uncompromised experiment and steers clear of comfort zones crediting its viewers’ capability to join dots without excessive spoon-feeding, a practice that eludes mainstream Hindi cinema.
The three stories, which extend through different time frames (1975, 1999, and 2010) and locations (London , Mumbai , Goa) take place simultaneously and though not directly connected bear thematic resemblance wherein all three Davids are battling an individual Goliath and share a unique but varying degree of relationship with their father.
David in 1970s London (Neil Nitin Mukesh Neil looks sufficiently turbulent and plays it subdued) is coming to terms with his highly dysfunctional surrogate family, unpleasant revelations about his past and a romantic upheaval (featuring a lovely but emotionally ineffective Monica Dogra) against the backdrop of Muslim mafia and Indian intelligence agents.
Shot entirely in black and white, it’s easily the most accomplished chapter among all three.
Hedonistic lifestyles, flower power in the passing, passionate encounters, faith-dictated zealousness, gruesome torture and gritty shootout sequences — this chunk of the story packs in a lot with its retro styling, assertive visuals and calm menace.
David in late 1990s Mumbai (Vinay Virmani conveys a convincing blend of innocence and exasperation) is a struggling musician and part-time tutor living with his father (Nassar, so effective in that one disturbing shaving scene), a devout Christian and two sisters (Sheetal Menon , Shweta Pandit do well in brief parts).
Their lives change for the worse after his dad is attacked by a bunch of Hindu fundamentalists (Rohini Hattangadi breathes venom through her eyes) who accuse him of promoting religious conversion.
Strong content notwithstanding, the Mumbai segment could do with better writing and consistency.
Considering its premise is religion-based acrimony and subjugation of minorities to achieve political mileage, the conversation is rather sloppy and lackluster. Also, I found the sub-plot featuring Lara Dutta quite unnecessary.
Nambiar, however, doesn’t mince words when it comes to likening religion-driven political parties to underwear in a scene preceding which David engages in a slo-mo brawl with a bunch of hoodlums amidst intense rainfall.
Incidentally, it pours frequently in this segment. That’s a lot of monsoon for February/March even in Mumbai. But climatic license is a hardly a crime if it generates such potent, classy frames.
But it’s fisherman David (Vikram. He’s mighty good. Can’t say the same about his segment) in Goa, circa 2010 who puts a spoke in the wheel of this otherwise high-adrenalin action-drama with his weird, politically incorrect humour and supernatural interludes.
So you have a perennially wasted lout punching random women in the face, picking fights in local bars and dangling between the counsel of his dad (a dorky Saurabh Shukla) and dost (Tabu by the virtue of being Tabu sparkles in a wishy-washy cameo)over pursuing a romance with his best friend’s (a pleasant Nishan) to-be-bride (Isha Sharvani , pristine and radiant as usual).
And pray, what’s with Satku Santa? These portions of David are so strange; they’re, well, ridiculous. Ever wondered what the stoner sequel to Kabhi Haan Kabhie Naa could be like? Look no further.
For all its eccentric offerings and lopsided hilarity (you do laugh a couple of times but it’s a sound of incredulity not tickle), none of it works and its sudden appearance especially after witnessing a cold-blooded execution in black and white is as awkward as Vikram’s Hindi.
This bouncing back and forth between characters and scenarios is always a risky deal and tests an individual’s capacity to refocus and reconnect. All the more when it mixes somber with slapstick. Ever been the unfortunate person sitting next to the one who has the remote control and keeps switching channels erratically? Yes, *that*!
Another side-effect of this disjointed plot technique is most characters never get enough space or time to truly blossom (There’s an interesting film somewhere in the underdeveloped plot of Iqbal Ghani’s real son.)
Nambiar realises the disadvantages of unorthodox narrative only too well. And so David relies on creating lingering moments instead –raw, stylish, stark or luminous almost like a spiffy music video accompanied by terrific sound and one of the best soundtracks of the year.
Like a neat wrestling sequence with Mast Kalander blasting in the background or the beautiful boat song on a serene night.
But a two and a half hour something overcrowded music video is taking it too far, isn’t it? A shorter, snappier David with a little less rambling and randomness may have led to a better payoff.
Still, there’s no denying Nambiar’s promise as an adventurous, aesthetically-sound filmmaker but his weak spot remains the same. His eye for dynamic visuals is yet to find its match in stories that speak.

Settai Movie Official Trailer

Everybody needs a hit: Shruti Haasan

Shruti-Haasan
Shruti Haasan, who is neck deep in work right now, says she couldn’t have had a better start to 2013, “I am busy with three Telugu films, two Hindi films and a Tamil movie. I have a busy and exciting year ahead,” says Shruti, who is currently shooting for Yevadu with Ram Charan. In fact, the actress celebrated her birthday on Monday with the cast and crew of the movie on the sets.
The actress also confirms that she has signed a Harish Shankar movie opposite NTR Jr. The two were supposed to work together earlier, but due of date issues, Shruti had to opt out. “Now, I will finally be working with NTR Jr and I’m excited about teaming up with Harish Shankar again after Gabbar Singh,” she says.
Shruti is also pinning her hopes on her Hindi film, Ramaiya Vasta Vaiya, to make a Bollywood comeback of sorts after a long hiatus. And this one has a good dose of Southern flavour too. “Prabhu Dheva has already made his mark in Bollywood as a director and since I know him well, it is so comfortable to be working with him in this remake of Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana. We have however, made a lot of changes in the Hindi version. I am playing a village girl in this film,” adds Shruti, who is essaying Trisha’s role in the film. The actress also has another Bollywood movie in her kitty — a Nikhil Advani film set against the backdrop of terrorism, starring Arjun Rampal.
“I am working on a Tamil movie too. I love this…being busy and working everyday,” she says. Tell her that after a series of flops, her fortunes changed with one hit and Shruti says, “Yes, everybody needs a hit, but at the same time people have to like my work too. I’m more thankful for the fact that people appreciated my work in every film and I work hard to earn that.”
With her filmi graph going strong, Shruti is keen on focusing on her singing career now. “Music has always been my love and I will be singing a lot more in Tollywood films, apart from writing lyrics too,” reveals the actress, who is busy shuttling between Mumbai, Hyderabad and Chennai these days. “I live in Mumbai with my mom and sister. And of course, I always consider Chennai as home. But for the last few years, I’ve been practically living in Hyderabad,” says Shruti.

Kadal Movie Review

kadal-movie-review
Cast: Gautham Karthik, Thulasi Nair, Arjun, Arvind Swamy, Lakshmi Manchu
Direction: Mani Ratnam
Production: Mani Ratnam, Manohar Prasad
Music: A. R. Rahman
Produced by Gemini Film Circuit and Madras Talkies, written by Jeyamohan and Mani Ratnam, directed by Mani Ratnam and starring Arjun, Arvind Swamy, Gautham Karthik, Thulasi Nair,Lakshmi Manchu and Ponvannan, Kadal is a story about sin and redemption, about faith and humanity and revolves around the life of Christian Fishermen, set against the backdrop of a sea side town near Tuticorin. Though the basic plot is about good and evil, Mani Ratnam clearly is not interested in narrating this in a simple manner. He tries to dig into many layers and sub texts, and though he partially succeeds in his endeavor, he is completely let down by the screenplay in the second half and the one dimensional characters.
Sam Fernandez (Arvind Swamy) and Bergmans (Arjun) are part of a Christian Seminary, undergoing training for priesthood. Sam is sincere and dedicated while Bergman believes in having a bit of fun. An incident that occurs in the early part of the film makes Sam and Bergmans to choose different paths of life. Meanwhile, in a sea side town, a young boy Thomas (Gautham Karthik) loses his mother and grows up as an orphan in a harsh, uncaring and violent environment. Sam comes to this town as the priest and takes special interest in this boy. Years later, Thomas and Bergmans’ daughter Bea (Beatrice played by Thulasi Nair) meet and destiny entangles all the four that changes their lives forever. The opening sequences are extremely promising and very engaging. They set the tone of the film and clearly lay out what to expect from the film. The titles against the backdrop of black and white images with a grey background tell us something about the characters. The ocean which looks beautiful and peaceful from outside, yet could be dangerous in unleashing destruction and violence (hence the name Kadal), provides a fitting backdrop to the story. Mani tries to capture biblical themes as a part of his characters/screenplay and questions his audience. When a crime is committed, who should be held responsible? Should it be only the person who committed the illegal act and that person’s accomplices? If punishment is involved, should it be restricted to the perpetrator? Or is it appropriate to apply a principle of collective responsibility and punish a group of people who have some connection to the perpetrator?
And in the first half, all these work together beautifully. Spoilers Ahead in this paragraph. Be it the scene where Sam asks Thomas to record his voice and Thomas records the choice of swear words eventually breaking down asking for his mother, or the scene when Thomas after meeting Bea for the first time requests Sam to have him baptized (indicating that he is born again), or the scene when the wounded Arjun smokes a cigarette and his hand stroking Lakshmi Manchu’s head (which makes sense later), Jeyamohan and Mani create a riveting first half. The conceit in the interval point is predictable but yet engaging.
And then the slide begins. What a letdown. There are absolutely no peaks in the second half and the characters become caricatures. Even some relatively good scenes like Bea and Thomas helping in the delivery of a baby or the scene where Sam is working on the sculpture of Jesus (Mani hinting that becoming Jesus is a work in progress) does not have the necessary impact as one loses interest and stops caring for the characters. In the climax fight that takes place in a boat in the middle of a storm, I felt it would be better if the boat capsizes and all of them drown.
Arvind Swamy is adequate as Sam. Arjun is brilliant in the portions when he is subdued, but whenever he has to play it over the top, he hams it. But both these guys raise much above the one-dimensional roles that is written for them. New comer Gautham Karthik impresses but Thulasi is just about passable. Like any other Mani Ratnam film, the technical departments excel in their work. Photography by Rajiv Menon is absolutely top notch. In Conversations with Mani Ratnam, the director had mentioned that the cinematography in Bombay (by Rajiv Menon again) was perhaps the best amongst his films. But Menon’s work here, in my opinion is even better. Sreekar Prasad’s editing and Shashidhar Adappa’s art direction is fantastic. Music by A.R.Rahman is adequate. Jeyamohan’s dialogues are brilliant in some places but the local dialect makes it a bot difficult to follow. But I must say this helps in creating the accurate environment for the film.
Despite the failure of Raavan, Mani must be commended that he has chosen not to take the easy route. Kadal is unconventional and while the filmmaker’s intention to take the road less travelled is commendable, the product is not. Go with absolutely low expectations and the chances are you will still be disappointed.
