Policegiri Movie Review

policegiri-movie-reviewCast : Sanjay Dutt, Prakash Raj, Prachi Desai
Direction : KS Ravikumar
Production : STAR Entertainment
Dabangg is now officially a genre. Here are some of the salient features of the category and how Policegiri fits perfectly in.
The film has to be about a cop. And he must be corrupt. Because you can’t fight the system unless you’re part of the system. I’m given to understand they’re putting this in school textbooks next year.
An allusion to Robin Hood must be made. Policegiri does neatly by doing a song on it picturized in front of a giant Ganesh idol. Also a must.
In addition to taking bribes and generally breaking the law in every way, the policeman must binge drink (the one in Policegiri brushes his teeth with beer and substitutes chutney with it for his mashed idlis) and he must dance with item girls at farmhouses despite having a healthy love life (also one for the textbooks). Yet he should shut down illegal wine shops and punish rapists.
The villain – and this is very important – must be Prakash Raj. And he must play a politician whose larger-than-life cutouts and postersadorn the Filmcity set the movie will be shot. There must be one sequence of him in his underwear. And he must double up as the comic relief in the climax.
No matter what the character’s religion is; he must pray at an open temple with the heroine.
Casting the heroine is critical. Either a newcomer or an out-of-work girl who is willing to embarrass herself to get into the 100-cr club. They are to be paid next to nothing for this.
Catchphrases are critical. Prakash Raj must have one. In Policegiri it is, “Sur Mohammed Rafi ka hai, lekin power Muhammed Ali ka”. After three-quarters of the movie is done, the policeman will finally come up with a response. In this case, “tera sur hai Osama ka. Mera power hai Obama ka!”
You must pay tribute to Salman Khan and other films of the ilk. A Salman cutout (yes cutouts are important) is present in Policegiri. As is a shot of a pirated DVD of Himmatwala. The irony must never be subtle.
Other details: The weapons of choice for the villain’s minions are sickles. A stunt involving the policeman’s sunglasses is a must. Only Mahindra cars – especially the Scorpio – may be used. They should have the ability to fly. One song should involving badly photoshopping leads against photo-studio type stock footage.
Overall the objective of the genre is to show a common, “honest” policeman as a superhero. This only makes it harder for that other genre called “superhero”. This is to make films like Ra.One look average. If with one stomp of the boot, Baba can make cars fly, can Krrish do anything more impressive?
Verdict : Policeman Failed to Impress

Gouravam Movie Review

gouravam-movie-review
Starring: Allu Sirish, Yami Gautam,Prakash Raj
Director: Radha Mohan
Producer: Prakash Raj
Banner: Duet Movies
Music: Thaman
Allu Arjun’s Brother Allu Sirish’s debut movie, Gauravam released today in Tamil and Telugu with lot of expectations. Prakash Raj has produced this film under his home production banner. The story line is quite unique. The Gauravam team should be appreciated for taking this dare step.
story:
Arjun (Sirish) is a rich kid who comes to village in search of his friend Shankar. He comes to know that Shankar eloped with Rajeshwari, a girl of upper caste. And no body knows about their whereabouts. Disturbed by the plight of Shankar’s father (LB Sri Ram), Arjun decides to stay in the village and tries to investigate in to the matter. Later, he takes on the casteism in the village with the help of his friends and media. Will they find Shankar? Will they set right the problems in the village forms the rest.
Prakash Raj has a son who is also cruel minded. Both of them tells Sirish that they will give and take the lives for the pride of their family. They are not bothered about their girl. However,Sirish wants to unravel the mystery and continues his hunt.Sirish goes back to his place and motivates all his engineering friends and brings them to the village and starts to fight against Prakash Raj’s family.Slowly the issue gains the attention of the media and with the fuss & buzz that comes along takes the message to the centre.Nasser played the role of a union minister & his daughter Yami Gautham donned the role of a lawyer. Finally the mystery unfolds with the help of all these characters .
Performance:
One should appreciate Allu Sirish for choosing this subject. But his efforts on screen do not score any good marks. He is totally clueless in emoting required emotions. And also struggled a lot in dances and fights. He still seemed an unfinished product.
Yami Gautam looked beautiful and young. She has the fresh appeal but her character lacked any depth or connect to the story . LB Sri Ram is good as a worried father. Prakash Raj’s character not used properly. Brahmaji is okay and rest of them are good in their limited roles.
Technical Aspects:
The two songs in the movie are really good and are embedded well in the story. The back ground score in some places is really good. There is very little scope for dances in the songs.
Radha Mohan as always came up with a intriguing subject. But he failed miserably in projecting it. Characterizations were not perfect some of them looked overboard and some looked totally under used.
Highlights:
Script
Prakash Raj’s performance is very good
Yami Gautham Beautiful looks
Direction is decent
Music is good
Disadvantages:
Climax is predictable
Allu Sirish
Poor characterizations
no excitement
Verdict: Good message oriented movie.can be watched once

Chennaiyil Oru Naal Movie Review

chennaiyil-oru-naal-movie-review
Cast : R. Sarathkumar , Prakash Raj , Cheran , Prasanna , Mithun , Raadhika Sarathkumar , Parvathi Menon, Iniya
Direction : Shaheed Kader
Music : Mejo Joseph
Producer : Raadan Media and Sun Pictures
Chennayil Oru Naal – It is based on a real incident which happened in Chennai. But, it was first made in Malayalam with the title as “Traffic” and it was a huge hit. At the hundredth day celebration of this movie, Kamal Haasan, who was the chief guest, announced that he would remake the film into Tamil and act in it. Because of his schedule with Vishwaroopam, he couldn’t make it.
Since, the story is based on Chennai and has a wonderful message related with organ donation, Radhika Sarathkumar brought the rights and produced the movie in Tamil along with Listin. Most of the realistic movies will be emotional or documentary, but this one comes under the “Thriller” Genre. Let us see whether it will satisfy only Realistic Movie Lovers or even Common Man in this Review
Story – It is multi-narrative thriller that intertwines multiple stories around one particular incident which happened in Chennai. Few years ago, heart of a brain dead youngster was transferred from Chennai to Vellore (170 Km) by road within 90 minutes to save a little girl. If Bala had directed this story, he would have surely made our handkerchief completely wet. But, Script writers Bobby-Sanjay have included cinematic ingredients to this incident to give us an edge of seat thriller.
Many actors have acted in this movie – Sarath Kumar, Prakashraj, Cheran, Prasana, Raadhika, Paravathi Menon, Iniya, Jayaprakash, Iniya, Parvathi and the list goes on. Even Surya had done a role which is much more than a Cameo role. Characterization is the major plus for this movie. All the actors have lived their character in the movie
Cinematography by Shehnad Jalal was too good in chasing sequences.
Editor Mahesh Narayanan who did editing for the Malayalam version had done the Tamil Version too. Movie runs for less than 2 hours. 1st half – 1 hr 10 minutes, 2nd half – 46 minutes. Even now, few people couldn’t understand 12B Movie which had slightly different screenplay. Story of the movie is quite complex as there are lots of characters in the movie. Editing had been done brilliantly in such a way that it doesn’t confuse the audience. He will definitely receive awards for the Tamil Version too.
Music director of the movie is Mejo Joseph. He did the Malayalam version too. May be, he was selected due to wonderful Background music in the original version. In Tamil version, BGM was awesome, but songs were very average.
Screenplay plays the key role for any movie and this is the best screenplay you must have seen in recent times. This movie is a lesson for the film aspirants to write a wonderful screenplay even for a simple plot and makes it an edge of seat thriller. Bobby – Sanjay have written the story and screenplay for both the versions and they deserve a SALUTE from us for giving us an engaging movie with a very important message to the society.
Director Shaheed Kadar was assistant director of the Malayalam version director Rajesh Pillai. He had done an excellent remake of the original version. Only negative for the movie would be the first song as it was average and starts the movie on slow note. Climax looks quite cinematic, which is little difficult for us to digest as it is based on a real life incident.
Overall, it is really a GOOD MOVIE in Tamil Cinema after long time with Marvelous Screenplay and Best Editing you must have ever seen.
Verdict : Dont Miss
