Dhanush has not delivered a big hit in the recent times in Kollywood. He has been due for a big hit in Tamil films after critically-acclaimed movie Aadukalam. However, his Bollywood debut Raanjhanaa in 2013 turned out to be a successful affair and it had given him a relief. Now, he is returning to Kollywood with Naiyaandi .

Naiyaandi became a talk of the town in the present week when Nazriya Nazim went public making some strange allegations against the director of the movie, Sarkunam. It gave a good publicity and made people to curiously await for the release. How far it has helped the movie? Read review to know it…

Sarkunam draws your attention with the narration. The credit card gives an introduction about the characters. Dhanush is shown as a careless guy, who is at his uncle’s place. He has two elder unmarried brothers played by Sriman and Sathyan. His daily life begins and ends with his cousin Soori (Soori). He is in love with dentist Vana Roja (Nazriya Nazim), who has come to the village to stay with her grandma for some days. With the support of his gang, he does several tricks to impress her. But none of them work in their favour.

Accidentally, heroine falls in love with him. Well, her rich father, who has never said ‘no’ to anything that she had asked for, has taken a promise that she would marry the boy chosen by him. Well, on the other end, she has started loving Dhanush. But the kind and lovely father fixes an alliance with Vamsi Krishna, who plays the role of a baddie in the movie.

Dhanush and Nazriya elope and get married. They also reach home, but they don’t reveal that they are the man and wife. His unmarried brothers now are in the race to marry her. What happens next is the crux of the story.

Performances Dhanush has done his usual job. He is good and has lived up to his character. Soori, Sathyan, Pyramid Natarajan and other characters have played their parts well.

Nazriya Nazim Steals Show Nazriya Nazim, who was in the news for wrong reasons, emerges as a winner. Her lovely face expressions and acting are the plus points of the flick.

Tech Departments Velraj’s cinematography is good. But it is Ghibran’s music score that stands out from all other technical departments.

Verdict The only saving grace in the movie is – Nazriya Nazim. Had she not played the female lead, it would have been difficult for audience to sit in the theatres till the end. Her controversy may not have helped the movie, but it has made people notice her talent. Dhanush has made a wrong choice!

Dhanush and KV Anand to shoot in Cambodia Vietnam

KV Anand’s locations have always come in for praise. While the director shot in Balkan countries for Maattrraan and in Norway for Ko, this time, the director has eyed Cambodia and Vietnam for his upcoming film with Dhanush. He says, “I will be travelling to Cambodia and Vietnam to freeze the location. I prefer to shoot in rare places as that gives a fresh feel to the film. After completing a couple of schedules in the country, we will be heading to Cambodia and Vietnam.”
Anand has finalized cinematographer Om Prakash, who is currently working for the Ajith- starrer Arrambam, for his Dhanush project. Quiz him why he doesn’t crank the camera for his films and he says, “A cinematographer lights up the shoot area after a director rehearses the scene. I wouldn’t be able to do justice to both. I don’t want to kill the director in me, but at the same time, I respect the cinematographer in me.” About the heroine, he says, “I have not confirmed the leading lady yet.”

Official : Dhanush pairs up with Amalapaul

Dhanush who celebrated his 30th Birthday in London officially confirmed the much speculated pairing of Amala Paul and Him. The Kadal Rasa revealed that he has signed up for new project which will be directed by Cinematographer Velraj featuring Amala Paul in the lead role and Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music for the move.

Maryan Movie Review

To start with ‘Maryan’ has some promising name in the cards. Dhanush , a National award winner, Bharat Bala- a former National award jury and a popular Ad film maker,Parvathy Menon- a sensible actress who opts for performance oriented roles, last but not lest the legendary AR Rahman’s songs. Whether all these technically brilliant names created the much needed magic?, read no to know…

The film starts with Maryan’s (Dhanush) telephone call from Africa to Panimalar (Parvathy). The first half of the film told as a flashback on the relationship between Maryan and Panimalar. Bharat Bala has beautifully sketched his characters which is one of the major strengths of Maryan. Especially the film captures the life of fisherman folks which so much reality and the natural film making gives the earthy feel to the movie.

Dhanush has one again come up with a splendid performance as Maryan. Maryan is a subtle,ferocious young man and he will go extreme to support his loved ones. There so many awe moments in the film, especially the scene where Dhanush slaps Parvathy during his closed ones death receives a thundering applause. Dhanush’s phone call to Parvathy from the African terrorist camp is another scene which shows Dhanush is a tremendous actor at any day.The way Dhanush cries,laughs, suffer are close to sheer perfection and one must say that Maryan is one his best roles in recent times.

Coming to the heroine , Parvathy’s character is not a ordinary glam doll role, if Maryan’s energy during his struggle in Africa is Panimalar then Parvathy’s character should create huge impact among the viewers and Parvathy did a fabulous job. The chemistry between Dhanush and Parvathy is so real and the magic is literally evident on screen.Parvathy once again proved that she is one actress who can deliver excellent performance in any kind of role.The other small characters like Appu Kutty,Uma Riyaz,Jagan,Imman found a place in our heart which is a victory for both the director and all these actors.

Marc Koninckx ‘s cinematography is crystal clear. The cinematographer has used different colour tones for the scenes in India and Africa. Even some of angles are too good, especially the African portions are simply superb. Editing by Vivek Harshan is adequate.

Coming to the music, after Mani Ratnam’s films Bharat Bala has used AR Rahman’s songs as a part of BGM and also an element in moving the screenplay of the movie. We all know the entire album is chart buster but in the film ‘Nenjey Ezhu’ stands tall so as Innum Konjam Neram. Nenjey Ezhu lifts the scene with electrifying energy and it is so inspiring.

Bharat Bala is a wonderful gift to Tamil cinema, his characterizations are well detailed and real as possible in a cinema format. Another interesting thing is that there is a novel, dramatic and musical touch to his scene conceiving which is a rarity is Tamil cinema. A best example is where Dhanush remembering Parvathy and her dream presence is something novel and the climax ‘sea’ logic during fight sequence is brilliant.

On the negative side though the director sketched all other characters in a detailed fashion, the African Terrorists were not sketched well. They were merely shown as a villain, instead it would be nice if they are portrayed with a solid reason on why they were very cruel. May be the director would have narrated the story in Maryan’s point of view and Maryan don’t know much about their demands or need.

On the whole Maryan is a feel good movie with a novel touch is present throughout . Watch it for the excellent acting, good music and a neat narration.

Verdict : Maryan – a heart stealer all the way!

Dhanush and Selvaragavan teams up for Bollywood Flick ?

Ace Director Selvaraghavan was the prominent feature in all Headlines following a interview which reported that Selvaraghavan was calling his career quit after the release of Irandaam Ullagam. The ace director who is currently on the road to recovery after a minor heart attack denied these speculations and clarified in his twitter account stating

This tweet has thrown up yet another fascinating possiblity of Selvaraghvan and Dhanush reuniting for a Bollywood flick, Dhanush who has already made it big in Bollywood through Raanjhnaa would be the perfect pick for Selvaraghavan to make his Bollywood debut. The Kollywood brothers of creation would definitely dazzle the Bollywood fans with their film if they do team up. Kaadhal Kondean, Pudhupettai and Mayakkam Enna have all been a class apart.
Sources also reveal that Selvaraghavan’s one Tamil movie in question is the Part II of Aayirathil Oruvan.

Interval Scene of Mariyaan

Director Bharatbala might clasp few films in kitty to embellish his film venture, but they’re more off unique paradigms. The maker of several Chartbuster albums, Bharatbala keeps his fingers crossed on his upcoming film Maryan that is scheduled for release on July 19.

The film stars Dhanush and Parvathi Menon in lead roles with Malayalam actor Salim playing an important role. The musical score by AR Rahman has already become a huge sensation raising the expectation bar for this film.

Here’s an interesting buzz about the film. It seems that the character of Maryan (played by Dhanush) gets kidnapped in Africa, where he goes for earning his livelihood. However, by the point of intermission, he manages to escape from their clutches and the entire second half is about his survival with a lot of scenic revelations unforeseen in Tamil screens.

It narrates the upheavals and the victory of Maryan through hardships both physically and emotionally. However, the closer sources of Maryan unit do no react to this as they claim it to be a baseless rumour.

I Dont Seek Rajinikanth Advice – Dhanush

Dhanush is currently on a all-time high after the tremendous response to his Bollywood debut Raanjhnaa and is Mariyaan is expected to be out very soon. Here are some excerpts from Dhanush’s recent interview to Filmfare magazine.

The Experience of Moving to Bollywood :
“Everyone thought Raanjhanaa was a mistake, They said things like, ‘You are a star down South and you have your hands full. Why do you want to take the risk? Hindi films are different. It’s not easy.’ But I wondered, ‘How different could it be?’ People are people and emotions are the same everywhere.If they like a film they’ll like it. There’s nothing more to any industry.”

Do the Stars of the South look down upon Hindi Films ?
“I don’t think that South Indian stars look down upon Hindi films. Probably, they’re just busy doing their work, An actor would love to be in any good film, irrespective of the language. Not to say there aren’t one or two wrong people. They’re stars who are happy in their comfort zone and wouldn’t want to be newcomers again.”

About the Song Kolaveri and The Movie 3 :
“The song gave a different perspective to 3. People thought it would be a funny film. But that’s not an excuse, We’ll have to accept that we failed where the film was concerned. Everyone liked the first half but the second half was a completely different movie. Maybe the film shouldn’t have been so sad and intense,”

“Some publication carried made-up incidents about Shruti and me. They were completely untrue. If there’s a film that’ll have both of us together, I’ll be happy to do it.”

“One day I was getting ready to go to school and my father asked me to come on the set as one of his child actors hadn’t turned up. I started crying. He still took me and there was no looking back. My first girlfriend dumped me. She thought I had no future in the movies. She made a practical decision. I too knew I’d never be a star,”

About his Family :
“I spend 30 days in a year with my family, It’s bad on my part. But I’m doing all this for them. I want my kids (sons Yatra and Linga) to be proud of me when they grow up. They should be safe and secure. Any responsible father would think that way. I keep them away from the media as much as possible. I want them to earn their place under the spotlight.”

Sonam Kapoor who played Dhnaush’s love interest in Raanjhnaa has been smitten by Dhanush’s charming looks and the natural finesse in his acting says She can’t wait for Dhanush’s Mariyan. Dhanush Raanjhnaa Movie Banned

Dhanush’s Bollywood venture Raanjhnaa has been racking up the appreciations for all corners of the Country, Dhanush’s breathtaking performance and A.R.Rahman’s scintillating music has proved to a deadly combo. The latest buzz regarding Raanjhnaa is that the movie has now been banned in Pakistan by the Pakistan Film Censor Board.
Amjad Rasheed, CEO of IMGC Global Entertainment stated in a report that the movie was banned ever before the stage of its release for controversial issues. The Pakistan Censor Board claimed that the story depicts a Muslim girl (Sonam Kapoor) falling in love with a Hindu Guy (Dhanush).
Interestingly the title track of Raanjhnaa itself has been sung bu Shiraz Uppal, a Pakistani Singer.

What’s a love story without some fun, heartaches and reality checks? Most love stories of our times pass through these three phases, and by then, either the girl or the boy realises they’re not meant to be together, and move on with their lives. However, in some rare cases, we see a love story enter the fourth phase – when you realise that love doesn’t age, but people do in a relationship.

Anand L Rai’s Ambikapathy, the Tamil dubbed version of Raanjhanaa, is a simple love story of a small-town boy and a girl, who in the process of figuring out the thin line between love and friendship, uncover stronger feelings for each other. We’ve had oodles of love stories focusing on the communal divide between the lovers, but Ambikapathy is largely about the divide in the ideologies of the youth of modern India. It’s the story of small town values versus urban philosophies.

What happens when a girl with city-intellect is pitted against the conventional yet archaic values of a small-town boy in the name of love? This is what precisely Rai depicts in this breezy entertainer packed with pain, laughter and little melodrama.

Ambikapathy scores an ace in two departments – casting and music. There would have been a third one if the second half was shorter and less melancholic. Spearheaded by Dhanush, who was irreplaceable in his role, and a brilliant supporting cast of Swara and Ayub, the film helps Sonam unleash her acting prowess.

Rahman’s music, needless to say, becomes an integral part of the film’s composition and helps us connect with the soul of the film.

Just like his previous film Tanu Weds Manu, Rai’s second directorial venture celebrates life in the alleys of Benaras, on the banks of the Ganga, giving us a slice-of-life of small town adventures. Some of the best moments come from the scenes between Dhanush, Ayub and Swara. The camaraderie between them may pop up question in many as to how could two guys use a girl for their whims and fancies, but if you look at it from a small-town’s point of view, it’s one of the best friendship moments ever captured onscreen.

You could easily write-off Rai’s protagonist, who like a love-struck puppy, stalks Sonam Kapoor, but it doesn’t rule out the probability that most small-town love stories are akin to what was portrayed to us. If you haven’t known a friend who cut his wrist or ever attempted suicide over love, then it’s unlikely that you will understand what lies beneath the layers of the emotion.

For people who attach only a love story tag to Ambikapathy, there is so much you didn’t understand in the film or could’ve gotten bored with because of the disengaging second half. Love is merely used as a tool to help us understand the complexity of modern-day relationships (including father-daughter or father-son) and politics.

There are two heroes in the film – Dhanush and AR Rahman, and both wear the south Indian label like a medal of honour and never allow it come in between their work. With his flawless performance as a Benarasi Brahmin boy, Dhanush kicks all the south Indian cliches out of the window, while Rahman helps us connect with the film more on an emotional level.

Verdict : Movie for Lovers Only

Tinsel town has been buzzing for few days over the Dhanush Vs Dhanush clash which was scheduled on June 21st where Dhanush’s Raanjhnaa and Maryan were both set to release on the same day, However that possibility now looks very unlikely for reasons below.

Maryan is yet to be Censored – Shortage of Preview theaters as UTV & Vendhar Movie had continuously booked the preview theaters for their TVSK & Thillu Mullu.
The Success of Theeya Velai Seyainanum Kumaru – Both the June 14 releases have been enjoying quite their share of Success..Specially after the all positive vibe around TVSK its doubtful that theater owners would reduce the number of shows in just a week of its release and its also very unlikely if Maryan team would compromise on lesser screen number.

Love my Hindi-speaking Dhanush: Aishwarya

Tamil actor Dhanush’s wife and brother are wowed by his debut Hindi movie “Raanjhnaa”, which shows him speaking in Hindi.

Praising her husband, who she had directed in “3″, Aishwarya tweeted: “The trailer of ‘Raanjhnaa’ is out! OMG I love it. Check it out. Love my Hindi talking (speaking) Dhanush.”

Selvaraghavan, Dhanush’s brother, tweeted: “‘Raanjhnaa’ rocks! My thambi (brother) is speaking Hindi. Proudest moment for all of us.”

Directed by Anand L. Rai, the film also features Sonam Kapoor, Abhay Deol and Swara Bhaskar. It has music by A.R. Rahman.

The trailer of the film released Wednesday and seems to have impressed others as well.

Filmmaker Venkat Prabhu said: “Awesome Dhanush! Brilliant as usual and I am sure he is again going to make us proud.”

Mariyaan is the story of human survival – Bharat Bala

Bharat Bala’s name is synonymous with Vande Mataram, the song and video with his friend A R Rahman. Equally popular was the Jana Gana Mana video. Bala had also directed the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.

His first feature film, Hari Om, produced by Tips Films, was a success on the festival circuit. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and won eight audience awards at various festivals.

The shooting of his second film, Mariyaan, in Tamil, with Dhanush and Parvathi Menon (of Poo fame) is over, and Bharat Bala is back in Chennai.

In an exclusive chat with rediff, the director speaks about the unusual film he is making that will release this summer.

It was reported that you narrated the story of Mariyaan after the National awards ceremony in Delhi last year.

Yes. Six months before the awards ceremony, I had come across a news item about three immigrant workers from India being kidnapped in Sudan. Sudan is the largest oil producing country in Africa and a civil war is going on there.

They were working for ONGC there, and were captured by some child soldiers, who demanded a ransom. People of Sudan feel that their oil is being taken away. As always, nobody in India was bothered about the kidnap of its nationals, unlike say, America or Germany or the UK.

These three men somehow managed to escape. It’s a story of human survival, and it fascinated me.

Hanshika says no to Dhanush

The latest news doing the rounds is that Dhanush is keen on pairing up with Hansika again.
Incidentally, her debut film in Tamil, Maapillai, was with Dhanush. Though the film did not do well at the BO, Hansika has had a series of hits recently, like Velayudham and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi.
The bubbly actress will now be seen with Karthi in Biriyani, Arya in Settai and Suriya in Singam 2. Hansika also has two films with Simbu.
As for why she didn’t say yes to the Dhanush project, Hansika says, “There were date issues.”
Looks like the National Award-winner will have to wait a little longer to sign her on!

Dhanush Mariyaan to release soon

Dhanush is currently busy with the shooting schedules of his most awaited film Mariyaan in the direction of Bharat Bala. The film has been under production from long time and now, the lead actor Dhanush informed that the film will hit the screens sooner than expected.

“Mariyaan is a very demanding project. not an easy film 2 make. hence d time taken. tryin 2 do somethin different. comin sooner than u guys think,” tweeted Dhanush. The actor is essaying the role of fisherman while the leading lady Parvathy Menon will be seen in the role of Panimalar.

This Bharat Bala directorial has musical scores by AR Rahman. Major part of Mariyaan was shot in Namibia while recently a song was shot on the lead pair in Coastal Desert.
