Naiyaandi Movie Review

naiyaandi-movie-review
Starring : Dhanush, Nazriya, Imman, Sathish, Soori
Direction : Sargunam
Music : Ghibran
Production : Kathiresan
Dhanush has not delivered a big hit in the recent times in Kollywood. He has been due for a big hit in Tamil films after critically-acclaimed movie Aadukalam. However, his Bollywood debut Raanjhanaa in 2013 turned out to be a successful affair and it had given him a relief. Now, he is returning to Kollywood with Naiyaandi .
Naiyaandi became a talk of the town in the present week when Nazriya Nazim went public making some strange allegations against the director of the movie, Sarkunam. It gave a good publicity and made people to curiously await for the release. How far it has helped the movie? Read review to know it…
Sarkunam draws your attention with the narration. The credit card gives an introduction about the characters. Dhanush is shown as a careless guy, who is at his uncle’s place. He has two elder unmarried brothers played by Sriman and Sathyan. His daily life begins and ends with his cousin Soori (Soori). He is in love with dentist Vana Roja (Nazriya Nazim), who has come to the village to stay with her grandma for some days. With the support of his gang, he does several tricks to impress her. But none of them work in their favour.
Accidentally, heroine falls in love with him. Well, her rich father, who has never said ‘no’ to anything that she had asked for, has taken a promise that she would marry the boy chosen by him. Well, on the other end, she has started loving Dhanush. But the kind and lovely father fixes an alliance with Vamsi Krishna, who plays the role of a baddie in the movie.
Dhanush and Nazriya elope and get married. They also reach home, but they don’t reveal that they are the man and wife. His unmarried brothers now are in the race to marry her. What happens next is the crux of the story.
Performances Dhanush has done his usual job. He is good and has lived up to his character. Soori, Sathyan, Pyramid Natarajan and other characters have played their parts well.
Nazriya Nazim Steals Show Nazriya Nazim, who was in the news for wrong reasons, emerges as a winner. Her lovely face expressions and acting are the plus points of the flick.
Tech Departments Velraj’s cinematography is good. But it is Ghibran’s music score that stands out from all other technical departments.

Verdict The only saving grace in the movie is – Nazriya Nazim. Had she not played the female lead, it would have been difficult for audience to sit in the theatres till the end. Her controversy may not have helped the movie, but it has made people notice her talent. Dhanush has made a wrong choice!

Suriya gives out 10 crores to Gautham Menon

surya-gauthammenonA leading Tamil Journal has published an interesting article involving Actor Surya and Director Gautham Menon after the duo have decided to part ways.
It’s a well known fact that it was Director Vasanth who introduced Surya to the film industry through his Nerukku Ner movie. The director approached Surya in later time for yet another movie chance, In development Surya went to Vasanth’s home and explained him that Currently the director was not in a state to Direct him and told him politely that he would instead the give the amount that Vasanth would receive if the movie becomes the hit, Interestingly Surya did give Director Vasantha a huge amount then and there.
Once again a similar incident has just occurred, involving Actor Surya and Gautham Menon. Everybody would be totally aware of the recent headline that saw Surya dropping out of Gautham Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram and owing to never work with him again. But here is a less known incident from the same episode.
Actor Surya has actually financially helped out the Director nevertheless, The actor who had received an advance of 5 Crores for Dhruva Natchathiram has added another 5 crores and handed over a total of 10 crores as a compensation to Gautham Menon for dropping out of his movie.

The music composer in a recent interview revealed more on the project..
“Vijay sir called me and asked if we can work together in Jilla. I took the tape recorder and went to meet him the moment he said that. Vijay sir laughed heartily, seeing me unchanged from how I was when we worked in Thamizhan. I haven’t asked Vijay sir for another opportunity after Thamizhan. If I had done that it would have been irking. I knew that we would meet again in the long run and I am very happy about it.”
When quizzed on, If the Music Director would try his acting like the other upcoming music directors, Imman had this to say “I don’t think a music director needs the identity of an actor. I wish to be identified just as a good music director.”

Why is Vikramprabhu Unique ?

vikram-prabhu
The first look of the film Ivan Veramaathiri, which has Vikram Prabhu’s face covered with a mask, has created a buzz in Kollywood circles. The title itself gives very little about Vikram’s character in the film. When we asked the director of the film, Saravanan, about the title, he says, “Vikram Prabhu’s character in this film is really different from other lead roles played by actors so far in Kollywood. That’s why I chose this particular title (Ivan Veramathiri). My lead protagonist will react to situations to which we normally don’t respond much – that’s why he is unique.”
The film also has Surabhi and Ganesh Venkatraman in the leads. The director, whose last film was Engaeyum Eppothum, adds, “We are planning to release the audio later this month and hoping for a November release.”

Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara Movie Review

Idharkuthane-Aasaipattai-Balakumara-Movie-Review
Starring : Vijay Sethupathi, Ashwin, Nanditha, Swathi, Pasupathi
Direction : Gokul
Music : Siddharth Vippin
Production : JSK,Leo Vision ,Studio 9
Vijay Sethupathi has proved himself to be a truly versatile actor. He can do all kinds of movies. No, really, he can. With “Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara”, he has convinced me that he can also do absolutely awful movies. But before you call me a crazy contrarian and tell me to go beep myself, let me make it clear that it is not Sethupathi’s fault that this movie sucks so bad.
Another day. Another new Tamil film with a message. I wonder if “..Balakumara” releasing on a dry day like Gandhi Jayanthi is some sort of a coincidence. Because, at heart, the film is a moral science lesson about the ills of consuming alcohol dressed up as a comedy. But since the film is as funny as a screen door on a battleship, all we are left with is the goddamn message. The film has its liver in the right place but the kind of situations the characters are put in to convey the point that “Liquor Ruins Country, Family, and Life” are laughably bad. As if those tobacco/alcohol disclaimers before every film weren’t enough.
Sethupathi plays Kumar, who in the words of Kumudha, the girl he fancies, is a “love ‘kum eve-teasing ‘kum vidhiyasam theriyathavan”. He calls himself Sumaar Moonji Kumar because some people apparently find that funny. Ashwin plays Bala, a bad boyfriend in the eyes of his demanding girlfriend Renu and an inept employee in the eyes of his tasking boss. That the film blames alcohol for their behavior and not because they are simple, old-fashioned jerks is what I just don’t get. Sure, Sethupathy’s Kumar is way too likable to fault, but even he goes overboard with his “loosu paiyan” act.
Saying Writer-Director Gokul’s screenplay is all over the place is putting it lightly. A film like “..Balakumara” which follows multiple storylines should be like a house of cards. You take out a single card and the structure is just not the same anymore. A sum of its parts. One could chop entire storylines here and still not miss much. It would still remain the same appalling movie. You just know that paths would eventually cross but there’s no joy in watching all these stories connect to each other.
All I wanted was to see more of Sethupathy. He doesn’t get much to play with but he still does everything to lighten up his portions. Humor is subjective and all that but I was completely taken aback by how embarrassingly unfunny this film was. I haven’t seen “Vaa Quarter Cutting” but I did hear some horror stories from people who did. Kumar’s search for alcohol in the middle of the night is reminiscent of the former film.
The other plots in the film include a couple expecting their first child and a wife who has her husband killed by two people who are smitten with her. Why the film even needed a murder mystery is a bigger mystery to me. There’s a dead man sitting inside a Tasmac bar and the attitude of people who have something to do with it is so uncharacteristic. In one scene you see the film going all grim during an accident and, moments later, the music is back to its jumpy self. There’s even a love failure song which Sethupathi dances to. The jarring tonal shifts belittle the tragedy that the characters are trying to avoid. Nothing is sacred and everything is expendable in the name of comedy.
I had such a horrible time I regularly contemplated walking out of the movie. But then again, I didn’t want to be the guy who walked out of a “Vijay Sethupathy” film.

Verdict : An extremely disappointing, painfully unfunny comedy featuring a mildly entertaining Vijay Sethupathi.
