Chennayil Oru Naal – It is based on a real incident which happened in Chennai. But, it was first made in Malayalam with the title as “Traffic” and it was a huge hit. At the hundredth day celebration of this movie, Kamal Haasan, who was the chief guest, announced that he would remake the film into Tamil and act in it. Because of his schedule with Vishwaroopam, he couldn’t make it.
Since, the story is based on Chennai and has a wonderful message related with organ donation, Radhika Sarathkumar brought the rights and produced the movie in Tamil along with Listin. Most of the realistic movies will be emotional or documentary, but this one comes under the “Thriller” Genre. Let us see whether it will satisfy only Realistic Movie Lovers or even Common Man in this Review
Story – It is multi-narrative thriller that intertwines multiple stories around one particular incident which happened in Chennai. Few years ago, heart of a brain dead youngster was transferred from Chennai to Vellore (170 Km) by road within 90 minutes to save a little girl. If Bala had directed this story, he would have surely made our handkerchief completely wet. But, Script writers Bobby-Sanjay have included cinematic ingredients to this incident to give us an edge of seat thriller.
Many actors have acted in this movie – Sarath Kumar, Prakashraj, Cheran, Prasana, Raadhika, Paravathi Menon, Iniya, Jayaprakash, Iniya, Parvathi and the list goes on. Even Surya had done a role which is much more than a Cameo role. Characterization is the major plus for this movie. All the actors have lived their character in the movie
Cinematography by Shehnad Jalal was too good in chasing sequences.
Editor Mahesh Narayanan who did editing for the Malayalam version had done the Tamil Version too. Movie runs for less than 2 hours. 1st half – 1 hr 10 minutes, 2nd half – 46 minutes. Even now, few people couldn’t understand 12B Movie which had slightly different screenplay. Story of the movie is quite complex as there are lots of characters in the movie. Editing had been done brilliantly in such a way that it doesn’t confuse the audience. He will definitely receive awards for the Tamil Version too.
Music director of the movie is Mejo Joseph. He did the Malayalam version too. May be, he was selected due to wonderful Background music in the original version. In Tamil version, BGM was awesome, but songs were very average.
Screenplay plays the key role for any movie and this is the best screenplay you must have seen in recent times. This movie is a lesson for the film aspirants to write a wonderful screenplay even for a simple plot and makes it an edge of seat thriller. Bobby – Sanjay have written the story and screenplay for both the versions and they deserve a SALUTE from us for giving us an engaging movie with a very important message to the society.
Director Shaheed Kadar was assistant director of the Malayalam version director Rajesh Pillai. He had done an excellent remake of the original version. Only negative for the movie would be the first song as it was average and starts the movie on slow note. Climax looks quite cinematic, which is little difficult for us to digest as it is based on a real life incident.
Overall, it is really a GOOD MOVIE in Tamil Cinema after long time with Marvelous Screenplay and Best Editing you must have ever seen.
Verdict : Dont Miss
